9 Auspicious Plants on the Office Desk According to Feng Shui - Which Aspect of Life Energy Do They Enhance?

9 Auspicious Plants on the Office Desk According to Feng Shui - Which Aspect of Life Energy Do They Enhance?

In an era where people spend long hours working at desks, creating a workspace with positive energy has become important to many. One popular method is placing plants on the work desk, which not only helps increase oxygen and freshness but, according to feng shui beliefs and ancient texts from China, certain plants are also believed to possess special power that helps enhance luck and life force in various aspects.

The Principles of Belief Regarding Auspicious Plants in Feng Shui

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese knowledge concerning the arrangement of objects and spaces to align with the flow of energy or "chi." In this belief system, plants are considered living things with positive energy that can absorb negative energy and create a good atmosphere for a space. In particular, plants with lush green leaves, round shapes, or leaves resembling gold coins are, according to texts, considered symbols of prosperity and financial luck.

How Different Plants Enhance Different Aspects

According to inherited beliefs, each type of plant has specific properties that differ from one another. For example, the jade plant, which has thick leaves resembling gold coins, is believed to help attract wealth and abundance. Bamboo, which is a symbol of strength and flexibility, is believed to bring progress in career. Money plants or gold coin plants with round, shiny leaves are thought to attract financial luck.

Additionally, there is the gosnea plant believed to enhance relationships and harmony, the snake plant which signifies protection and clearing negative energy, the dracaena which helps purify air and create positive energy, the succulent which some schools believe helps protect against harm and absorbs radiation from electrical appliances, the horn plant which is a symbol of abundance, and the silver-gold plant with beautiful two-toned leaves, believed to bring balance and good fortune.

Choosing and Placing Plants According to Feng Shui Principles

According to feng shui principles, choosing plants should prioritize the condition of the plant. Healthy plants with fresh green leaves that are not wilted will bring positive energy, whereas plants that are thin or have yellow, dry leaves may have the opposite effect. The placement is equally important. Generally, it is recommended to place them on the left side of the work desk, which is the position of the green dragon (the position of luck and advancement), or in a corner where natural light reaches.

What matters is maintaining the plant so it grows well. Regular watering, removing dry leaves, and showing care are all part of building positive energy. In feng shui belief, caring for a living thing with intention reflects the intention to care for one's own life and career as well.

However, these are merely beliefs and inherited wisdom with no scientific evidence to confirm. But having plants on a work desk does provide real benefits in terms of increasing freshness, reducing stress, and creating a better work atmosphere, which may indirectly have a positive effect on work performance.
