Feng Shui for Business
Feng Shui for retail spaces follows principles distinct from those applied to residential homes, with a focus on attracting customers, wealth, and business prosperity. A well-arranged shop can help a business thrive and flourish.
Choosing a Shop Location
An ideal shop should be situated on a busy street. It should not be located at the end of a dead-end alley, directly opposite a T-junction, or sandwiched between two tall buildings. The shopfront should be wide and visually striking.
Positioning the Cash Register
The cash register should be placed where the entrance door is clearly visible, but not in direct alignment with it. The auspicious direction for the cash register is the southeast (associated with wealth and fortune). The cash drawer should not be left open.
Auspicious Items to Boost Business
Beckoning Cat (Maneki-neko): Place it at the front of the shop to wave in customers. A cat raising its right paw attracts money; one raising its left paw attracts people.
Money Frog: Face it inward in the morning to draw money in, and turn it to face outward in the evening.
Pi Xiu (ปี่เซียะ): An auspicious creature believed to consume wealth but never release it — symbolizing money flowing in without flowing out. Place it facing toward the door.
Fountain / Fish Tank: Flowing water represents the flow of incoming wealth. Place it in the north or southeast direction.
Feng Shui Taboos for Retail Shops
Do not place a mirror directly opposite the entrance. Do not allow the shop to be dark and dim. Do not clutter the front of the shop. Avoid using dark colors throughout the entire space. Do not position the cash register in front of a window, as this causes wealth to flow out. Never let shelves run empty — always keep them fully stocked.
