Principles of Venerating Phra Krueang

Properly venerating a sacred amulet (Phra Krueang) goes beyond simply wearing it around your neck — it requires genuine faith and appropriate conduct so that the Buddha's power (Phuttakhun) may take full effect.

Receiving a New Amulet

Upon receiving a new amulet, you should bathe and dress modestly, light 3 incense sticks and 1 candle, recite "Namo Tassa Bhagavato Arahato Sammasambuddhassa" three times, then set your intention — declaring that you resolve to do good, uphold the precepts, and asking that the Buddha's power protect and watch over you.

Daily Practices

Each morning before putting on the amulet, hold it up to your forehead between your eyebrows, recite "Namo" three times, and make your intention known. Before going to sleep, remove the amulet and place it somewhere elevated — such as the head of the bed or on a spirit shelf — and never leave it on the floor or in an inappropriate place.

Important Prohibitions

Do not bring the amulet into the bathroom, do not place it in a low position, do not step over it, do not allow others to handle it without permission, do not use foul language while wearing it, and do not use it for any purpose that violates moral principles.

Storage and Care

Store the amulet in a clean box and keep it in an elevated place. If you have multiple amulets, arrange them neatly. Avoid humidity and direct sunlight. For amulets made from earthen material, take special care to protect them from water and impact.

The full power of a sacred amulet manifests when the devotee maintains a virtuous mind, upholds the precepts, makes merit, and cultivates compassion toward all living beings. An amulet serves as a reminder to live rightly — it is not a magical tool that will bring success without any effort on your part.
