What Are Transiting Planets?
Transiting planets refer to the current positions of the nine celestial bodies (Navagraha) in the sky. When a transiting planet moves into a particular zodiac sign, it exerts an influence on individuals whose natal planets or Ascendant (Lagna) are placed in that sign.
Slow-Moving and Fast-Moving Planets
Slow-moving planets — namely Saturn, Jupiter, and Rahu–Ketu — produce effects that last for years, shaping the overall direction of a person's life over extended periods.
Fast-moving planets — namely the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, and Venus — produce effects lasting only days or weeks, acting as triggers that set specific events in motion.
Saturn Transit — The Planet of Trials
Saturn spends approximately 2.5 years in each zodiac sign. When transiting Saturn enters the First House (the Ascendant), it marks a period of significant challenges; yet those who endure it stand to gain something truly great. Saturn is not a malefic planet in the negative sense — it is a teacher who instructs through trials.
Jupiter Transit — The Bringer of Fortune
Jupiter spends approximately one year in each zodiac sign. When transiting Jupiter enters an auspicious house — such as the First, Fourth, or Eleventh — it heralds a period of good fortune, new opportunities, financial ease, and the arrival of benefactors.
Rahu–Ketu Transit — Karma to Be Confronted
Rahu and Ketu always move in retrograde, spending approximately 1.5 years in each zodiac sign. When transiting Rahu aspects the Ascendant or a significant natal planet, unexpected events arise and life takes sudden, sharp turns — outcomes that may prove either fortunate or adverse.
Guidance for Navigating Planetary Transits
During a malefic transit, one is advised to wear auspicious colors determined by the Thaksa (Tักษา) system based on one's day of birth, engage in prayer, make merit, pay respects at temples, and avoid major decisions. During a benefic transit, one should act swiftly on plans already laid, for the planetary timing is favorable — do not delay.
